Fuel system and trunk done! Just need to put some nice looking wire loom on the wires coming off the fuel pump.

Looks great as always.

How "sealed" is the trunk? Now keep in mind I come from a forum of motorsports where it isn't a question of if your going to crash, but how often. And in a lot of cases BIG. But that fuel system "inside" the car scares the crap out of me.

Not knocking your work. Fire inside of a car is something that is way down my list of things to do. And I think crashing motorcycles at 160+mph is not that big of a deal.

It will be as sealed as well as .040 aluminum and fire caulking can get you. The fire caulk I will use is the same used in commercial building to prevent flames from spreading from floor to floor. The weak link is the wiring harnesses that go though each side. Other then that, I will be sealed.

I have friend here that lost his 9 second GT500 last year due to the fuel pump ring not being seated properly and leaked on the exhaust and caused him to loose the car and get a pretty good burn on his leg. He is coming back with a very nice large turbo build with a glide and a fire suppression system. I don't want to do that yet, but his accident made me think about it for sure! He went though the traps at 150+ on fire!

Also remember, with a stock car, the only thing between you and the fuel system is a piece of plastic and a foam rear seat!

Did you seal up all the holes in the rear deck too?

I went completely bezerko overkill with my bulkhead and used .125 sheet, but I'm also using it to stiffen the chassis up for the rear suspension. Different application, different intended use. I think I used .35 or .40 on the rear deck and for the holes to the sides of the pass through.

I caulk'd everything up too.

Not much to do about the wiring, I agree. I just made the holes as small as possible and used big grommets.

Sounds like you have it covered, it's just scary shit.

That sucks. That is actually my worst fear with my car. Getting burned up would suck. Loosing the entire car would suck a lot too. I've got 3 halon extinguishers in the car. I need to get my crap together and run a real fire suppression system though. They aren't that expensive really.

No F&*%ING thank you! I'll pass! I've slid down the track on my face at 150+mph more then a few times. I'd much rather do that.

Yes all holes on the rear deck (package tray) and bulk head will be sealed. I should have every chance to get out as possible if needed.

Yeah, but they aren't pumping 1000+hp worth of fuel either.:omfg:

True!

Seen a guy this weekend at nmra get airlifted after hitting the wall at 193mph.....

One more reason the inertia switch still controls the relay for the fuel pumps in my car. It wont help in a spill, but at least it will shut the pumps off.

Saw that this morning. It was good to hear he checked out OK at the hospital.

Yeah crashing going that fast (I have) is one thing. Hitting something going that fast, even a glancing blow is a whole different deal. I've been lucky enough to have never gotten into a wall. That doesn't end very well.

Mine is still hooked into my pumps too (I'm using it to break the trigger wire connection, not the grounds). No way I want to turn the car into a flame thrower.

Yeah, if I didn't know who you were I would take the bait.

You would slaughter me from a dig. A 50-60 roll would be fun though.:thumb2:

I don't mind roll racing, I will take that when we finally meet up. In Mexico, the high HP is a blast!

We do all of our roll racing in Canada!

My car is useless from a dig. Roadrace rubber, 375# rear springs, super stiff swaybars and geared to do 225mph.......in 5th. My F-150 will out 60ft it by about an hour, LOL!

Hey Billy.. you need to do a few practice evacuations from your car every so often. Not a bad idea to throw in a few get out from the passenger side trials also. Fire suit is nice but that is not what kills most guys. smoke does.

Fire suppression is a must on something like you have. I am not taking my car down the track till mine is installed and practiced a bit. As Jason mentioned.. fire is way down on my list too and have seen too many cars built by meticulous people go up in flames. Just a risk we take at this level

Fire suppression is probably not going to extinguish a fire either. only likely going to buy you enough time to get out.

This is no shit..

I read an article in GrassRoots Motorsports where one of the guys experienced his first “in cabin” fire in a race car. In this case a Miata. It was a full blown race car with a good fire suppression system. By the time he pulled the handle, got the car stopped (he was only going about 75mph) and got out of the car he had 2nd degree burns on his legs/hands/forearms. He had a full blown real deal fire suit on too.

Now imagine that is with jeans, a t shirt and no fire suppression system……yikes!!!
